AEA Ignite Grant Awarded

AEA Ignite grant to support translation of AI-enabled prostate radiotherapy technology

Our team has been awarded an Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) Ignite grant to support the translation of an AI-enabled medical device designed to reduce toxicity, lower hospital visits, and expand access to prostate cancer radiotherapy.

The Australia’s Economic Accelerator is a $1.6 billion national initiative that takes a new approach to research commercialisation, supporting projects to progress from academic discovery through to market-ready products and services.

The funded project, “An AI-enabled medical device to halve toxicity, reduce hospital visits and expand access to prostate cancer radiotherapy,” will translate a marker-less prostate tracking algorithm into a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5 medical device. The work will include experimental validation and clinical testing across public, private, and regional hospital settings in New South Wales.

By removing the need for implanted markers, the technology aims to reduce the burden of surgical procedure on patients. In addition to this, the technology is expected to improve treatment precision. The project aligns with Image X’s goal to enable broader access to advanced radiation therapy techniques, particularly in regional settings.

The AEA Ignite funding supports a critical stage of development, helping bridge the gap between research innovation and clinical implementation, and advancing the pathway toward real-world impact for patients and health services.

Congratulations to Dr Chandrima Sengupta, who will be heading up the incredible multidisciplinary team of collaborators: Jeremy Booth, Michael Jameson, Kankean Kandasamy, Ryan Brown, Joel Poder, Ben Zwan and Trang Nguyen.
